Inaugural KMT-BOND enhances students’ welfare, disburses ₦1.750M to Yobe tertiary institutions
Story by Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu
In continuation of its vital student-led welfare initiatives, the inaugural KMT-BOND JAMB Prize Event has recently allocated ₦1.4 million to the Student Union Governments (SUGs) of seven major tertiary institutions across Yobe State.
The landmark event, organised by the Kashim Musa Tumsah (KMT-BOND) committee, distributed a total of ₦2.9 million in JAMB prizes to outstanding students. However, the committee placed a major emphasis on alleviating student burdens by channelling substantial funds directly to their representative bodies.
The core of this student welfare push saw each of the seven SUGs receiving ₦200,000.
The benefiting institutions include Yobe State University (YSU), College of Administrative and Business Studies Potiskum (CAMTECH), and Federal University Gashua (FUGA).
Others are College of Education Gashua (COEGA), Federal Polytechnic Damaturu (FEDPODAM), Federal College of Education (Technical) Potiskum (FCE-T) and College of Agriculture Science and Technology Gujba (COASTG) respectively.
The committee explicitly stated that the allocated ₦1.4 million is designated for the SUGs to implement “vital welfare initiatives” directly benefiting their respective student populations.
The initiative empowers the student leaders to address pressing needs on their campuses, ranging from hardship support to essential amenities and vital programmes.

Beyond the direct SUG funding, the event also demonstrated support for broader student representation, a sum of ₦200,000 was allocated to the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and ₦150,000 allocated to the National Union of Yobe State Students (NUYOSS National).
“It was more than an awards ceremony; it became a celebration of intellect, compassion, and our shared responsibility towards each other,” stated Chairman Suleiman Hassan Gimba in his closing remarks.
He reinforced the committee’s philosophy: “The true measure of greatness lies in our ability to lift others as we climb,” highlighting the focus on tangible support alongside academic recognition.
The event also featured ₦2.9 million in JAMB prizes awarded to outstanding Yobe students, tuition fee refunds for six students with disabilities gaining tertiary admission and travel reimbursements for all attendees with disabilities.
Others were cultural performances and a Hausa-language panel discussion reflecting Governor Mai Mala Buni’s unity efforts, condolence visit and financial support provided to the family of a late cancer patient, directed by Alhaji Kashim Musa Tumsah.
