Immigration officer arrested in Abuja with exotic firearms

Police operatives from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command have arrested a senior official of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in possession of a variety of heavy firearms and ammunition.

According to reporters, the suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was apprehended on Monday afternoon near the Zuma area of the FCT.

Sources revealed that the officer has been unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for how he came into possession of the weapons or where he was headed with them. Authorities suspect he may have been involved in illegal arms dealings with criminal groups.

The recovered weapons included multiple rifles and pistols, along with various types of ammunition. A source close to the investigation confirmed the following items were seized: four AK-47 magazines, four magazines for CZ Scorpion rifles, two CZ Scorpion rifles, 139mm ammunition, and two Diakon and CZ pistols.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect is currently being interrogated. He noted that further details would be shared later.

“They have just brought the suspect before me and he is being questioned. That’s all I can confirm at the moment,” Disu stated.
