“I will spend less on politics in the future,” Elon Musk

Billionaire Elon Musk has revealed that he’s pulling back on political spending, signalling a major shift from his high-profile role in the 2024 election.

“In terms of political spending, I’m going to do a lot less in the future,” the billionaire said Tuesday at the Qatar Economic Forum, when asked if he planned to stay involved in the 2026 midterms.

When asked why, he simply replied, “I think I’ve done enough.”

He added, “If I see a reason to do political spending in the future, I will do it. I don’t currently see a reason.”

Musk, who poured more than $200 million into the 2024 race and helped propel Donald Trump back into the White House, had previously vowed to keep his America PAC active.

“Normally, PACs go somewhat dormant after a big election,” he tweeted last year. “@America PAC is going to do the opposite and keep grinding, increasing Republican registrations in key districts around the country, in preparation for special elections and the midterms.”

Now, with his latest comments, that plan appears to have shifted.

America PAC declined to comment Tuesday, but sources close to Musk had previously said he intended to remain active in future elections.

Within the GOP, Musk is now seen as both an asset and a liability. While many credit his support for Trump’s win, others have grown cautious, especially as Democrats use his leadership of DOGE to attack Republican priorities.

Since joining the Trump administration to lead DOGE — and after an aggressive, failed push in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race — Musk has grown frustrated with Washington, according to sources.

He’s now spending far less time in D.C., tweeting less about politics, and focusing more on his companies. Tesla stock has surged over 50% in recent weeks.
