Head of Palestinian community in Nigeria arrested by anti-terrorism squad
Ramzy Abu Ibrahim, the Head of the Palestinian Community in Nigeria, has been arrested by the Anti-Terrorism Squad in Abuja.
Family members told SaharaReporters on Monday that Ibrahim, a Palestinian-Nigerian who has lived in the country for decades, was taken from his residence on Friday.

A relative who spoke to SaharaReporters said, “He was arrested on Friday by the security operatives. They identified themselves as the Anti-Terrorism squad.
This man is not a stranger in Nigeria. He has been here for over 35 years, and he went to school in this country.”

The relative added that the family doesn’t know where Ibrahim is being held. “The only reason we might link to his arrest was his recent advocacy on the growing attacks on journalists and other vulnerable people in Gaza,” the relative stated.

Ibrahim has been actively mobilising support for Palestinians in Nigeria and recently increased his public commentary on the killing of journalists in Gaza by Israeli airstrikes.
An official at the Palestinian Embassy in Nigeria confirmed they are aware of the arrest but are still “trying to process the information.”

Nigerian security agencies have not yet released an official statement about the arrest or Ibrahim’s location.

The Guardian reported on Monday that 15 people, including four journalists, were killed after Israeli airstrikes hit al-Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza.

Palestinian health officials confirmed the deaths of Hussam al-Masri (Reuters), Mariam Abu Dagga (Associated Press), Mohammed Salam (Al Jazeera), and Moaz Abu Taha (NBC). Another Reuters journalist, photographer Hatem Khaled, was seriously injured.

Al-Ghad TV footage showed civil defence workers and journalists attempting to recover al-Masri’s body when they came under fire, raising their hands for protection before being struck.
