Grain prices drop sharply in Potiskum market, Yobe

‎In a welcome development for both traders and consumers, grain prices in the Potiskum Grain Market have witnessed a significant drop this week, with key staples such as maize, millet, sorghum, and beans selling at much lower rates compared to recent weeks.

‎The decrease has been met with joy and relief, particularly in a time when many households continue to grapple with the rising cost of living across the country.

‎According to a market update gathered on June 29, 2025, maize is currently selling between ₦45,000 and ₦46,000 per bag. Millet another staple grain, now goes for between ₦52,000 and ₦55,000.

‎Sorghum has also seen a drop, being sold for ₦38,000 to ₦40,000.

‎White beans are currently priced between ₦86,000 and ₦90,000. Meanwhile, the large red beans are selling between ₦90,000 and ₦95,000, depending on size and quality.

‎Other items like Roselle, locally known as Zobo (dried hibiscus flower), are priced between ₦20,000 and ₦21,000. Melon, a local grain, is being sold in two categories — the first ranges between ₦44,000 and ₦45,000, while a variant type sells between ₦33,000 and ₦35,000.

‎Rice also features on the market list. The polished variety is fixed at ₦125,000 per bag, while broken or processed types have varying prices based on processing quality and demand.

‎Groundnut is selling at a relatively high price, going for between ₦130,000 and ₦135,000 per bag.
