Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has on Tuesday commissioned and distributed 47 new vehicles and 50 motorcycles to security agencies operating in the state.

Governor Buni described the initiative as a historic and important part of the state government’s sustained effort to support security operations in all 17 local government areas.

While commissioning the vehicles, Governor Buni expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support in fostering a peaceful environment in Yobe.

He also commended the dedication of security personnel, vigilante groups, and hunters for their gallantry.

He stated that the logistics support was crucial to enabling effective patrols and prompt responses to distress calls.

“The purpose of today’s occasion is to step up the government’s efforts towards supporting security agencies, to enable them to carry out their duties effectively and efficiently,” he said.

Buni recalled that his administration had previously provided vehicles and established the “Operation Habban” quick-response squad, which has since been expanded statewide.

“The 47 vehicles have been allocated one vehicle each to the Divisional Police Officers in the 17 local government areas.

“One vehicle each to key security commands, including the State Police Command, the Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai, the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Correctional Service, and the Nigerian Immigration Service.

“Other beneficiaries are the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).”

Additionally, each of the 17 local government chairmen will receive a vehicle to enhance their operational capacity.

The 50 motorcycles will be distributed with 23 going to the DSS, 10 each to the Nigerian Army and the airport security team, and seven to vigilante groups.

Governor Buni directed local government chairmen to oversee the maintenance and fueling of the vehicles assigned to Divisional Police Officers in their jurisdictions.

Governor Buni urged the security agencies to reciprocate the government’s gesture by redoubling their efforts to maintain law and order, allowing citizens to conduct their daily activities without fear.

Earlier in his remarks, the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdussalam (Rtd), thanked Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni for his consistent support, particularly to federal security agencies that are not directly under the state’s responsibility.

“You still support us logistically and otherwise, which is worthy of special appreciation.

“Also worthy of appreciation is the welfare package you initiated to support retired members of the security agencies,” said the special adviser.
