Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the release of ₦5.8 billion to offset outstanding gratuity payments owed to retired public servants in the state.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Mohammed Abatcha Geidam, the move was described as a major step in the administration’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of its workforce, particularly senior citizens who have served the state diligently.

The governor also directed that gratuity payments be incorporated into the state’s monthly financial plan. This means retirees will begin receiving their gratuities monthly, alongside regular pension payments, to prevent the buildup of future arrears.

“This is a clear demonstration of Governor Buni’s compassionate leadership and his appreciation for the contributions of our retirees,” the commissioner stated.

Geidam added that the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Head of Service are working closely to ensure prompt and transparent disbursement of the approved funds.

He further noted that this initiative aligns with the administration’s broader fiscal and social reforms, aimed at promoting financial discipline while prioritising the needs of the people of Yobe State.
