Ganduje faces new probe over alleged sale of multi-billion naira abattoir

Former Kano State governor and immediate past APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is under a new investigation by the Kano State Government for the alleged illegal sale of the multi-billion naira Nigerian Meat and Allied Products (NIMAP) Abattoir.

The abattoir, a massive facility in the Chalawa Industrial Area, was reportedly built during the administration of former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso before allegedly being auctioned off under Ganduje’s watch. In response, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has established an 11-member panel to probe the transaction.

The NIMAP abattoir, located on a large plot of land, was designed to be a crucial economic hub for the state, generating revenue and jobs. Its reported sale has caused widespread public outrage, with many accusing the previous administration of short-changing the state for personal gain.

During the committee’s inauguration, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Faruq Ibrahim, emphasized the necessity of the probe to hold the past administration accountable and protect state assets. “This administration has a responsibility to safeguard public infrastructure illegally auctioned for selfish interest,” Ibrahim declared.

The panel has been tasked with reviewing all documents related to the sale, verifying that due process was followed, and recovering any lost assets or funds.

The SSG also directed the committee to identify all individuals and organisations involved, recommend disciplinary action for those found guilty, and propose reforms to prevent similar incidents in the future. “The committee is also expected to propose steps toward establishing a modern meat processing plant that meets international standards,” he added.

The investigation is being chaired by Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, the former Chairman of the Kano State Anti-Corruption and Public Complaints Commission.

In his response, Rimin-Gado thanked the governor and pledged that the investigation would be conducted with integrity. “We will discharge this responsibility without fear, favor, or affection. This is a call to service, and we will handle it diligently,” he assured.

The committee has been given three weeks to complete its assignment and submit its report. This new probe adds to a series of corruption allegations against Ganduje’s administration.

For Governor Yusuf, who has vowed to reclaim public assets allegedly mismanaged by his predecessor, this investigation highlights his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability in Kano State.
