Foundation enrols 2,000 vulnerable Yobe children in schools

Story by Sa’adatu Maina, Damaturu

In a significant move to tackle the issue of out-of-school children, the Usman Ali Sulaiman Charity Foundation has enrolled 2,000 vulnerable and orphaned children from the Nangere/Potiskum Federal Constituency into formal education.

The initiative, which aligned with Governor Mai Mala Buni’s vision for a literate Yobe, was launched at an event attended by government officials, traditional rulers, and community members.

The Foundation’s Director, Mohammed Ibrahim Dan Shehu, cited the state’s educational challenges, exacerbated by past insurgent activities, as the motivation for the programme.

“We recognised the critical need at the start of the new academic session and decided to focus on enrollment to prevent children from roaming the streets,” Dan Shehu stated.

To ensure the students are fully equipped, the Foundation provided each child with a complete set of learning materials, including school uniforms, bags, books, and writing supplies.
