Food prices drop slightly in Dawasa grain market, Yobe

There has been a slight fluctuation in the prices of grains and other essential food commodities at the Dawasa Grain Market in Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State.
This update provides a detailed snapshot of the market prices as recorded on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
According to market sources, a 100kg bag of maize is currently being sold between ₦47,000 and ₦48,000, while guinea corn ranges from ₦54,000 to ₦55,000. Sorghum prices vary depending on the variety; some are sold between ₦41,000 and ₦42,000.

For beans, the prices also reflect market shifts. A bag of beans (white beans, mixed grade) costs between ₦90,000 and ₦94,000, while larger-sized white beans are sold between ₦90,000 and ₦92,000. Red beans are among the most expensive items, priced at ₦95,000 to ₦97,000 per bag.
Other grains like ‘melon’ are sold between ₦46,000 and ₦47,000, and a 50kg bag of rice costs ₦135,000. Cracked or broken rice is sold for ₦40,000 to ₦43,000 per bag, depending on the quality.

Groundnut a staple in many households, is now being sold at between ₦130,000 and ₦135,000 per bag.
Farmers and traders in Dawasa attribute the price variations to factors such as transportation cost, recent rains affecting road access, and supply-demand dynamics.
