Florida nurse takes plea deal in sexual battery case involving stepson

A nurse whose husband allegedly busted her sexually abusing his 15-year-old son has struck a plea deal that will significantly reduce her jail time.
Alex Von Yates, living in Florida, United States, was initially charged with sexual battery on a person 12 to 18 years of age by a person in familial custody, after her husband Frank claimed he caught her “red-handed” last year.
The 35-year-old former nurse, who was stripped of her medical licence after the allegations were raised, has now pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of lewd and lascivious battery during a Thursday, August 21 court hearing.’
Court TV reports that the victim’s family supported the plea as the teenage victim would no longer be required to return to Florida to testify, which they feared would disrupt his mental health treatment.

Under the agreement, Von Yates will serve two years in the Department of Corrections, backed up by two years of community control and 10 years of sex offender probation.
She must also complete 200 hours of community service and front up for fines and court costs.
Exact details will be delivered in September when the victim and his mum intend to make statements to the court.
The judge accepted the plea, despite noting the agreement was a “significant downward departure” from standard sentencing guidelines.
It is alleged that in July 2024, Von Yates abused her stepson, who at 15 was three years under the legal age of consent in Florida, while the child was visiting his dad’s for the summer, and that the victim’s dad had walked in on the incident.

On the night of the alleged abuse, Von Yates reportedly put her two children to bed before hanging out with her 15-year-old stepson in the living room, according to court documents,
They reportedly smoked a THC vape and played video games and watched movies. However at around 1am, Von Makes turned on a horror movie before allegedly seducing the teen by declaring the movie was boring and that she was “horny”.
In the boy’s statement, he claimed Von Yates told him she was sexually frustrated because she had not had sex in two weeks and she was on her period. The two began to cuddle before moving on to kissing. It is claimed Von Yates told the teen that she “wished” he was 18 because he wasn’t “old enough”.
The former nurse then “kicked off” her underwear before allegedly engaging in sexual contact, according to the affidavit.

Husband Frank then came home from work and allegedly found Von Yates and his son naked on the couch. The pair didn’t stop, while Frank shouted: “What the f*** is going on here?”
Frank then allegedly began to throw objects and called his wife a “child predator”.
The affidavit details that the boy then ran out of the house, but allegedly heard Von Yates tell Frank that his son looked just like him “when he was younger”
Von Yates’ nursing licence was suspended straight away following her arrest.
