Federal Ministry of Education praises Yobe’s progress in Basic Education
Story from Ibraheem El-Tafseer
The Federal Ministry of Education has commended the Yobe State Government for its outstanding strides in delivering quality basic education across the state.
In a special letter personally signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, CON, and addressed to Governor Mai Mala Buni, the Minister praised the Governor’s unwavering commitment to foundational education as a critical tool for development.
“I write to convey the commendation of Your Excellency’s unwavering commitment to advancing the basic education sector in Yobe State,” the letter read. “Your proactive approach is exemplary and reflects a sustained prioritization of foundational education aimed at improving educational outcomes for over 967,301 children of basic education age in the state.”
Dr. Alausa also acknowledged the state’s full access of its 2024 Universal Basic Education (UBE) matching grant—a key indicator of active participation and accountability in the national education programme.
The commendation comes on the heels of an international achievement by Yobe students. Three girls from the state, Nafisa Abdullah, Rukayya Muhammad Fema, and Khadija Kashim recently emerged world champions at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom. The competition featured over 20,000 participants from 69 countries.
In response, Governor Buni expressed gratitude for the federal recognition, describing it as a motivation to aim higher in the pursuit of educational excellence in Yobe.
