Ex-convict arrested 5 days after prison release

Story by Susan Mbamah

Just five days after completing a two-year sentence for theft, an ex-convict in Delta State, Precious Okoro, has been arrested for stealing a motorcycle.

According to police spokesperson SP Edafe Bright, operatives of the Eagle-Net Special Squad were on patrol when they received a distress call about the stolen motorcycle.

The officers, working with the Nigeria Hunters Security Services (NHSS), successfully tracked and arrested the 27-year-old Okoro. His accomplice, 18-year-old Buhari Deyegu, was also apprehended, and the stolen motorcycle was recovered.

Okoro, who was released from the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Facility on August 6, 2025, allegedly returned to a life of crime almost immediately. A subsequent search of his home uncovered a Tiger generator, a large Fireman generator, and an iron measuring scale, all suspected to be stolen.

In a separate operation, police also apprehended 39-year-old Bassey Udoh in Asaba, who was found in possession of an English Beretta pistol. Preliminary investigations suggest Udoh is part of a burglary syndicate known for breaking into homes and stealing valuables.

SP Bright said Udoh was intercepted on August 16 by officers from the Rapid Response Squad during a stop-and-search operation.

His suspicious behavior led to an immediate search, which revealed the firearm. Udoh reportedly “confessed to purchasing the gun for ₦30,000.”
