Enugu governor, Peter Mbah, decamps from PDP to APC
Mbah announced his defection during a press conference on Tuesday in Enugu, stating that his decision followed deep reflection and consultations aimed at ensuring the continued progress of the state.
The governor explained that joining the APC would open new avenues for collaboration and development, noting that he shares a common vision with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on transformative governance.

“Today, after a long period of reflection, we have decided to leave the PDP and join the APC. We share a vision that transformation must be disruptive,” Mbah said. “I have found in His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a partner in purpose — a man with the courage to look beyond today and make tough choices that secure lasting prosperity for tomorrow.”
Mbah was accompanied to the briefing by his predecessor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, along with several state and federal lawmakers, local government chairmen, and political appointees. He emphasized that the decision was a collective one by the Enugu political family, representing over 80% of party executives across the state.
According to him, the move is intended to ensure that the voice of Enugu people and the South-East region resonates more strongly at the national level.

“This is no whimsical decision,” the governor said. “It is a collective move by the political family in Enugu State — members of the National and State Assemblies, the Executive Council, local government chairmen, councillors, political appointees, and more.”
While expressing gratitude to the PDP for its past support, Mbah lamented that the South-East’s loyalty to the party was often met with disregard.
“To the Peoples Democratic Party which provided us the platform on which we campaigned and won, I extend deep gratitude. The PDP supported us through a demanding campaign and joined us in celebrating victory,” he said.
