Employees stand trial for stealing iron worth ₦500,000

Two men, Segun Shonekan and Rasak Lasisi, on Monday, appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly stealing ten pieces of iron rolling wheel worth ₦500 000 belonging to their employer.

The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy, which they pleaded not guilty to.

The prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendants committed the offences in November 2024 at Veevee Paper Product on Ijoko Road, Ota.

Adaraloye alleged that the defendants stole ten pieces of iron rolling wheel valued at ₦500, 000 belonging to their employer, Owoso Lawrence.

He said the offences contravened Sections 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo granted each defendant ₦100, 000 bail with one surety each in like sum.

Fadairo said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.

The case was adjourned until June 9, for further hearing.
