Story from Folusho Adeogun

The Presidential Villa, Abuja, became a site of reflection and reverence on Monday, 27 July 2025, as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, paid a solemn visit to the State House Press Gallery to honour the memory of the late Dr. Leon Usigbe, Abuja Bureau Chief of the Nigerian Tribune.

In an atmosphere filled with grief and respect, the CGC signed the condolence register opened by the State House Press Corps, describing Dr. Usigbe as “a seasoned professional who carried out his duties with rare depth, integrity, and commitment to the ideals of journalism.”

Adeniyi, himself a long-time advocate for media engagement and institutional transparency, was visibly moved during the visit. “We have lost a giant in the media landscape,” he wrote. “Dr. Usigbe was a journalist of uncommon excellence whose dedication to truth and fairness made him a reference point for many in the profession.”
