Yobe State Governor, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, has congratulated the newly appointed Emir of Gudi, Alhaji Ismaila Ahmed, describing his emergence as a widely accepted and popularly endorsed decision.

The governor extended his congratulations during a thank-you visit by the Gudi Emirate delegation to the Government House in Damaturu on Monday.

“You have been a successful politician and now a traditional ruler. No one needs to tell you the value of tolerance and accommodation—you are well-experienced,” Governor Buni told the new Emir.

He prayed for a peaceful and prosperous reign for Alhaji Ismaila Ahmed and also offered prayers for the late Emir, Alhaji Isa Bunuwa Madugu Ibn Kaji, asking Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.

Governor Buni used the occasion to call on traditional rulers across the state to take a more active role in the fight against drug abuse, which he described as a growing threat, particularly in Northern Nigeria.

“As custodians of tradition and culture, traditional rulers have a vital role in shaping the moral character of our youth,” he said. “Unlike political leaders who serve fixed terms, traditional rulers are lifelong leaders with lasting influence. That makes their role in addressing social issues like drug abuse even more crucial.”

He emphasised the importance of collaboration between government and traditional institutions to combat the rising trend of illicit drug consumption.

“The traditional institution remains one of the most respected in society, with significant influence. Together with government efforts, it can serve as a strong force against the drug menace,” Buni stated.
