Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State on Saturday paid an inspection visit to the Damaturu Flyover and Underpass, and the Damaturu-Gambir road projects under construction.

The Governor was accompanied on the inspection tour by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana; Commissioners for Works, Engr. Umar Dudaye, and Finance, Alh. Mohammed Abacha; the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali; NEDC Executive Director, Dr. Garba Iliya; Special Advisers on Special Duties and Religious Affairs; and other top government officials.

At the Flyover and Underpass project, Gov. Buni expressed satisfaction with the quality and speed of work.

“I am happy with the quality and speed of work on the project. The contractors have so far lived up to expectation, with strict adherence to the contractual agreements.

“When completed, this will greatly check the problem of congestion here at the city center as well as the menace of floodwater entering houses along Gashua Road,” he said.

The State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Umar Wakil Dudaye, who conducted the Governor around the project, said site engineers from the ministry have been monitoring every stage of development to ensure compliance and that the government gets value for its money.

The contractors further assured the Governor that the project would be completed within the stipulated time frame.

Similarly, Gov. Buni was at the Damaturu-Gambir road project for a personal assessment of its quality and progress.

The Governor said the road has great economic value as it will ease the transportation of agricultural products from the benefiting communities to Damaturu, the state capital.

“We have a lot of agricultural communities that are always challenged by the difficulty of moving their farm produce to Damaturu, where there is a huge market.

“This road will provide a solution to the age-long difficulty faced by the communities.

“I am glad the contractor has completed the earthwork and commenced the overlay,” Gov. Buni noted.

Engr. Modu Bukar of Elegance Construction, the contractors handling the project, assured the Governor that the project would be completed in the next nine weeks.
