A building collapse at the Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC) in Potiskum local government area of Yobe state has resulted in the death of one student and left several others injured.

The incident occurred around 1:00 PM on Thursday, while students were attending classes, prompting an immediate response from local authorities.

According to reports gathered by Neptune Prime, the building suddenly gave way, trapping students under the rubble. Emergency services rushed to the scene to rescue those affected.

One student was confirmed dead at the scene, while several others sustained varying degrees of injury.

The injured students were promptly transported to the Potiskum Specialist Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

The Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Abba Idriss Adam, visited the site of the collapse and expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

Commissioner Idriss stated, “This is an extremely unfortunate incident that has left us all in a state of profound grief. Our hearts go out to the family of the young student who lost her life in this event.

“We mourn with them and share in their pain during this difficult time. Losing a young life, full of potential and promise, is a heavy blow not only to the family but to the entire community and the educational system.

“We pray to Allah to forgive her transgressions and grant her eternal peace. May He also grant her family the strength and fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.”

He further emphasised the need for a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and prevent such incidents in the future.
