Bandits kill 13 worshippers in Katsina Mosque attack
The Katsina State Government has confirmed that bandits killed 13 people in a reprisal attack at a mosque in Unguwan Mantau, Malumfashi Local Government Area, during a Tuesday morning prayer.
Dr. Nasir Muazu, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, disclosed the tragic incident in a statement in Katsina.
He said, “The incident occurred when criminal elements launched a reprisal attack on the community. The Muslim members of the community were praying in the mosque during the Fajr prayer when the criminal element started shooting sporadically in the mosque.”

According to Muazu, the attack was an act of retaliation after the community successfully defended itself against the bandits two days earlier, reportedly killing many of them.
In response to the tragedy, security agencies have been deployed to the area to restore order. Muazu stated, “Air component commander of the Forward Operating Base, Nigerian Army, and Nigerian Police Force have already been deployed to clear those bandits.” He added that the rainy season, with its tall crops, often provides cover for the bandits to carry out their “evil acts.”
The commissioner also extended condolences to the victims’ families and praised the community for their bravery. “As a government, we salute the gallantry and disposition of the people of Unguwar Mantau, and we are committed to fighting these bandits and ensuring safety across our communities. The state government extends heartfelt condolences to the families affected.”
