Bandits abduct councillors, seize policemen’s phones in Zamfara
Gunmen have attacked a police station in Zamfara State, abducting councillors and a cleric while stripping officers of their mobile phones.
The incident occurred in Dansadau town, Maru Local Government Area, following an armed raid targeting the area’s security outposts.
According to local reports, the attackers entered the station unexpectedly, overpowering officers on duty and taking away communication devices.

Besides the phones, they carried off several councillors and a cleric who had been present in the office or vicinity at the time of the raid.
Some victims were taken from their homes or offices in the same community, indicating coordinated moves beyond just the police checkpoint.
Residents say the kidnappers moved swiftly and left no time for resistance or effective alarm raising.

Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the attack and initiated joint operations with military and vigilante forces to rescue the captives and recover stolen items.
The Commissioner of Police in Zamfara has directed area commanders to intensify patrols and guard sensitive installations.
Efforts are ongoing to trace the abducted councillors and cleric, with security agencies promising to use all resources to ensure their safe return.
