Army arrests 8 ISWAP suppliers, rescues 5 abductees

Nigerian Army troops have arrested eight suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) logistics suppliers in Gubio town, Borno State. The suspects were found with a significant amount of fuel intended for the terrorists.
According to a source at Army headquarters in Abuja, soldiers from the 149 Battalion were on a “logistics strangulation mission” when they apprehended the suspects.
The source stated, “The suspects were found with 28 jerrycans and one drum of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) concealed in shops and a POS centre. Troops also recovered ₦145,510 in cash and five mobile phones intended for onward delivery to terrorists.”

In a separate operation, a joint team of the 17 Brigade, the Nigeria Police, and local vigilantes rescued five kidnap victims in Gidan Kwairo village, Katsina State. The source noted that the swift response to a distress call forced the terrorists to abandon the captives.
“The swift response forced terrorists to abandon five kidnapped victims, who were rescued unharmed,” the source said. However, the terrorists did kill one civilian and another sustained gunshot injuries and was taken to Malumfashi General Hospital.
Additionally, a notorious oil facility vandal was arrested in Bayelsa State. A military source revealed that the arrest, which took place on September 7, 2025, was carried out by troops of the 5 Battalion in collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and a private security company.

The suspect was apprehended at Okordia in Yenagoa Local Government Area and has since been handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS) for further investigation.
