Abuja-Kaduna train services return as NRC announces resumption
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has officially announced that passenger train operations on the Abuja-Kaduna corridor will resume starting Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The resumption follows several weeks of repair and safety checks of the track segment impacted by a recent derailment.
NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, confirmed that both infrastructure and rolling stock have been restored to acceptable safety standards.

He said the corporation worked diligently to bring the line back into operation, assuring the public that safety remains its primary concern.
Unyimadu also thanked federal and state government agencies, security outfits, media partners, and stakeholders for supporting the restoration efforts.
He added that the train resumption was planned in line with global best practices, with comprehensive inspections carried out before the green light was given.
According to the NRC website, the online ticketing platform for the Abuja-Kaduna line is already open, allowing passengers to purchase tickets in advance.

In the reverse direction, the train will depart Rigasa, stopping en route before reaching Abuja.
Though the service had been suspended following a derailment in August, NRC says the intervening period was used to review operational protocols and boost system resilience.
Earlier, over 500 passengers had been refunded following the incident, a move which the corporation said was part of its commitment to passenger welfare.
