A tribute to late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, by Hassan Ahmad
With a heart full of respect and remembrance, I write this tribute to His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, a man whose name shall remain etched in the history of Nigeria for his patriotism, uprightness, and enduring commitment to national service.
President Buhari was not just a former Head of State or two-term civilian President — he was a symbol of integrity in public office. He inspired generations with his courage, ascetic lifestyle, and unwavering belief in the unity and progress of Nigeria.

For me, this tribute is also personal.
It was under his administration that my childhood friend and brother, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, was appointed the 19th Inspector General of Police.
That singular act by President Buhari not only validated the merit and capacity of IGP Idris, but also brought pride and honour to all of us who knew him from humble beginnings.

In his own gesture of trust and brotherhood, IGP Ibrahim Idris appointed me as his Special Adviser after my retirement from service. That opportunity, coming at a time when many fade quietly from relevance, gave me renewed purpose to continue contributing to national service in a supportive capacity. For this, I will remain eternally grateful to him.
But it is important to acknowledge that it was President Buhari’s leadership that made all this possible. His decision to entrust such a sensitive office to a man of character like Ibrahim Idris speaks volumes of his own values — he believed in merit, loyalty, and competence.

As we mourn the passing of President Muhammadu Buhari, we must also celebrate his legacy. A legacy that goes beyond the walls of Aso Rock, and lives on in the appointments he made, the reforms he started, the people he empowered, and the ideals he upheld.
May Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings, reward his sincerity, and grant him eternal peace in Aljannatul Firdaus. May his family and all Nigerians find comfort in his honourable life and enduring legacy.
