Yobe, NDLEA renew partnership to tackle drug trafficking

Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and abuse across the state.

The governor made the pledge on Wednesday during the public destruction of seized illicit drugs at Kasaisa village, near the Gujba–Maiduguri new bypass. Represented by his deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, Buni commended the NDLEA for its steadfast efforts in protecting society, particularly young people, from the harmful effects of substance abuse.

He noted that the Yobe State Government has implemented several proactive measures to curb the spread of illicit drugs across all 17 local government areas in pursuit of a drug-free society. These measures, he said, include the recent distribution of patrol vehicles to security agencies such as the NDLEA, NAPTIP, and NAFDAC, to strengthen their operations.

Governor Buni described drug abuse as a major driver of insecurity and other social ills, adding that many crimes are perpetrated under the influence of hard drugs. He also commended the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ethical Re-Orientation, and the Hisbah Commission for their sustained campaigns against drug use, urging continued collaboration to curb the menace.

In his remarks, the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Muhammad Buba Marwa (Rtd), represented by the Director of Operations and General Investigation, DCGN Alhaji Ahmad Suleiman Ningi, said the destruction exercise was both a statutory duty and a public show of accountability, transparency, and progress in the war against drug crime.

Marwa assured that the NDLEA would sustain its efforts using all lawful means to rid the country of drug trafficking and abuse.
