As the Nigerian Senate resumed plenary after a ten-week recess, two lawmakers Senator Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central) and Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central) used the occasion to express strong solidarity with the Palestinian people.
In a video that has since gone viral, Senator Ningi appeared on the Senate floor dressed in a black garment, wearing an Ihram draped around his neck, expresses solidarity with the people of Palestine. He raised two fingers and chanted “Free Palestine!” four times.
Senator Aliero, though not in similar attire, echoed the sentiment. “Although I don’t have an Ihram, I also say Free Palestine!” he said, repeating the chant four times in support of his colleague’s gesture.

Their public demonstration aligns with growing international condemnation of Israel’s continued blockade and military actions in Gaza. Massive solidarity protests have recently taken place across Europe, Asia, and Latin America, criticizing Israel’s operations and supporting Palestinian self-determination.
Notably, Swedish activist Greta Lotilla has joined efforts to break the naval blockade of Gaza, reinforcing global calls for humanitarian relief and justice in the region.
Nigeria, for its part, has long supported a two-state solution. At the recent United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Vice President Kashim Shettima speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reaffirmed the country’s backing for the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
