Jonathan will contest 2027 presidency, return to Villa – Gana
Former Minister of Information and Orientation, Professor Jerry Gana, has publicly declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan will run for the Nigerian presidency in 2027 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and that he would return to the Presidential Villa.
Speaking after the recent PDP Congress in Minna, Niger State, Gana said Nigerians had experienced two administrations since Jonathan left office and were now longing for his comeback. He voiced confidence that Jonathan would beat the incumbent in the next election.
“In 2015, former President Goodluck Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another President ruled for eight years, and now another has ruled for two years. Nigerians have seen the difference, and the difference is very clear. Nigerians are now asking us to bring back our friend, former President Goodluck Jonathan,” Gana said.
He went further: “I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as PDP candidate, and we should be prepared to vote for him to return as President again.”

Gana framed Jonathan’s anticipated candidacy as a response to public demand, arguing that the electorate is now more aware of leadership quality and is ready to restore what they see as better governance.
He dismissed talk of internal discord within the PDP, saying past disputes had been resolved through party elders and consultations. He portrayed the PDP as unified and ready for the 2027 challenge.
Observers say Gana’s statement will spark debate within the PDP, especially among aspirants who may have expected to contest under the party’s flag next year.
Critics, however, may view this as part of political posturing. Jonathan hasn’t yet officially declared a presidential run, and his possible entry could reshape internal dynamics in the PDP and beyond.
Some analysts believe Jonathan’s reappearance would shift alliances and mentor younger leaders in the party. Others caution that his past tenure and legacy could become a liability in modern politics.
The coming months will be pivotal. If Jonathan accepts the nomination, the PDP will need to navigate candidate selection, campaign strategies, and potential resistance from other quarters.
Even as Gana speaks, Jonathan has not publicly confirmed or denied these reports.
