PSC names Chairman’s Conference Hall after ex-IGP Solomon Arase

Story by Jessica Mbamah

The Police Service Commission has renamed its Chairman’s Conference Hall in honour of its late Chairman and former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.

The commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, announced the development in a statement on Thursday, noting that the sixth-floor facility at the PSC headquarters will now be known as Solomon Arase Hall.

Arase, who served as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector General of Police between April 2015 and June 2016, later chaired the PSC until his death on August 31, 2025, at the age of 69.

At a night of tributes held on Wednesday, PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), represented by Director of Human Resource Management, Aminu Malumfashi, described Arase as “a police officer of repute, a scholar and a reformer … a gentleman of rare courage and intellect.”

Funeral activities continue today (Friday) with a requiem mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, and a lying in state at his Abuja residence on Saturday.

His body will then be flown to Benin, Edo State, for burial rites, with interment scheduled for Friday, October 3, 2025.

Ani added that a strong PSC delegation will be in Edo to pay last respects to the late chairman.
