Former FCT minister, Solomon Ewuga, is dead

Former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Solomon Ewuga, has died.

He passed away on Wednesday, according to family sources in Akwanga and Nasarawa-Eggon who confirmed the news to Daily Trust.

Ewuga, who studied Political Science at the University of Ibadan and later Mass Communication at Stockholm University, Sweden, was one of Nasarawa State’s most prominent politicians.

He first gained national attention in 1999 when he contested the PDP governorship ticket against Abdullahi Adamu. Though he lost the primary, he was picked as deputy and later nominated as minister from Nasarawa.

In June 1999, President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed him Minister of State for the FCT, a post he held until 2001.

Ewuga made repeated bids for the Nasarawa governorship in 2003 and 2007, later moving from the PDP to the ANPP and then the CPC.

In 2011, he aligned with Tanko Al-Makura to oust Governor Aliyu Doma, winning a Senate seat to represent Nasarawa North in the 7th Assembly.

Beyond politics, Ewuga was a veteran journalist and once served as managing director of the Nigerian Standard newspaper.

His later years were marked by personal tragedies, including the death of his daughter, a pilot, in a Cameroon plane crash, and his own brutal kidnapping that left him struggling with mobility for years.
