Two men face jail term for stealing rice, other food items worth ₦2.5 million
Two men, a 30-year-old Victor Otache and Wisdom Abudu, 22, were on Tuesday arraigned before a Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Ebute Meta on Tuesday, for allegedly stealing food items valued at ₦2.5 million.
The two men were arraigned by the police before Magistrate Folashade Hughes on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy and theft.

Police accused the defendants of allegedly conspiring to steal rice, beans, palm oil, dressed chicken, fruits, garri, and other food items belonging to Abundish Limited, located at Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Philomena Nnaji told the court that the offences, which violate Sections 411 and 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, were committed between April and September 14, 2025.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Based on this development, the defence counsel, B. N. Nwaigwa urged the court to grant his clients bail on the most liberal terms.
In her ruling, Magistrate Hughes admitted each of the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000, with sureties in the like sum.

The magistrate also ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ikoyi, pending the perfection of their bail conditions.
She then adjourned the case to October 14, 2025, for further hearing.
