INEC sanctions new ADC leadership, recognises David Mark as Chairman

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognized former Senate President David Mark as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The commission also acknowledged former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as the party’s National Secretary, effectively ending a prolonged leadership dispute.

According to information from INEC’s portal, other recognised members of the National Working Committee (NWC) include Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi as National Publicity Secretary, Mani Ibrahim Ahmad as National Treasurer, Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary, and Professor Oserheimen Osunbor as National Legal Adviser.

The recognition follows the dissolution of the party’s old NWC, led by Chief Ralph Nwosu, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

This move, which was monitored by INEC officials, handed over the party’s national structure to the Mark-led interim leadership.

Meanwhile, a former ADC Deputy National Chairman, Nafiu Bala, who had previously declared himself the authentic chairman, is challenging the new leadership.

THE WHISTLER had reported that Bala described the Mark-led leadership as “a group of hooligans.”

When asked about INEC’s recognition, Bala insisted he remains the authentic chairman, stating, “I am not aware that INEC has recognised Mark or anyone as the chairman of the ADC. Like I said it earlier, I am the authentic chairman and nothing has changed.”
