Liverpool agree £125m deal for Newcastle star, Isak

Story by Susan Mbamah

Liverpool and Newcastle have reached a historic agreement for striker Alexander Isak, with the deal set to break the British transfer record.

Liverpool will pay a fixed fee of £125 million for Isak, who is expected to finalise his move to Anfield on Deadline Day. The forward is slated to sign a six-year contract and undergo his medical on Monday morning.

This monumental transfer surpasses the previous British record of £115 million, which Chelsea paid to Brighton for Moises Caicedo in 2023.

Earlier this month, Liverpool’s initial offer of £110 million plus add-ons was rejected by Newcastle. At the time, Newcastle was reluctant to sell their key player unless specific conditions were met, as reported by Sky Sports.

Although Newcastle had previously valued Isak at £150 million, their position changed in recent weeks after Isak missed the first few weeks of the season and stated, “the relationship can’t continue.”

The signing of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart for a club-record fee of up to £69 million paved the way for Liverpool to make their successful bid for Isak.
