Triple Crown: 3 trailblazing women from Yobe State make history in Nigeria

Celebrating three notable women from Potiskum, Yobe State, who through their strides in academia, the judiciary, and the finance sector, shattered barriers, strengthened institutions, and inspired generations in Yobe State and beyond.

1. Aisha Umar Bubaram

 

Aisha Umar Bubaram

Bubaram is a princess from Yobe State, a seasoned banking professional with over 25 years of experience. She made history as the first female from Northern Nigeria to assume an Executive Management position at First Bank.

She is the daughter of His Royal Highness the Emir of Potiskum, Alhaji Umaru Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya I, OON. Aishatu has emerged as a seasoned financial executive whose career has included excellence, commitment and transformational leadership. After over 25 years in the banking sector, she currently holds the position of Group Executive at FirstBank of Nigeria Limited and is a Non-Executive Director on the Board of FirstBank Guinea.

Her rise from a young Graduate Trainee to the top of the executive board has been a story of determination. Remarkably, she became the first woman from Northern Nigeria to reach such a senior rank in the 131-year history of FirstBank.

Aside from banking, she is the founder of the Hearty Hands Humanity Foundation, through which she strives to ensure access to education and healthcare for disadvantaged communities across Nigeria.

Her humanitarian efforts and good deeds continue to touch many lives.

2. Professor Halima Gambo

Prof. Halima Gambo

Professor Halima Gambo made history by becoming the first woman in Nigeria to become a Professor of Veterinary Pathology.

She began her teaching career in 2004 at the University of Maiduguri, where she continued to research, teach and lead until she was promoted to Professor.

In addition to her academic career, she holds senior positions such as:

Vice President, Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN)

Chairperson, NVMA, Borno State Chapter

Deputy Director, University of Maiduguri Business School (UMBS).

3. Professor Hadiza Hamma

Prof. Hadiza Hamma

Professor Hadiza is also a native of Potiskum, and the first young woman from the North-East to become a Professor of Law. She is a lecturer at the University of Abuja. She belongs to the Bolewa tribe of Potiskum Local Government Area.

This achievement further demonstrates that Yobe is playing a significant role in producing influential women in the fields of education and business in Nigeria.
