Troops neutralise top Boko Haram commanders in Borno, Yobe
Story by Susan Mbamah
Nigerian troops have killed two senior Boko Haram commanders and several fighters during a series of counter-insurgency operations in Borno and Yobe States.
The commanders, identified as Abu Nazir (Munzir of Juye) and Abu Fatima (Munzir of Koloram), were eliminated along with 11 fighters in coordinated attacks on Bita and Wulgo in Borno between August 21 and 23.
The operations were part of Operation Hadin Kai, with ground forces supported by precision air strikes that also destroyed the insurgents’ weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles.

Military sources confirmed that troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, with support from the Air Component, repelled a night attack on the Forward Operating Base at Kumshe on August 22.
The air strikes resulted in significant casualties, and more than 20 bodies were later found in shallow graves.
In a separate action, Sector 1 troops engaged insurgents at Dipchari near Banki Junction, neutralising several fighters and seizing rocket-propelled grenade tubes, rifles, magazines, ammunition, and motorcycles.
In Yobe, Sector 2 troops, working with the Civilian Joint Task Force, conducted a raid in Ndoksa near Buni Gari on August 23, inflicting further losses on the insurgents and recovering additional weapons and motorcycles.
Military authorities described the operations as a decisive blow to Boko Haram, stating that the loss of key field commanders has weakened the group’s leadership.
They added that the sustained operations have restricted the terrorists’ movement, degraded their firepower, and disrupted their logistics.
