Police to probe Fuji star KWAM1 for alleged misconduct at airport

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the Nigeria Police Force’s airport command to investigate popular Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, also known as KWAM1, for an alleged altercation with airport officials.

The music star is accused of “unruly conduct” last week when he allegedly obstructed the safe operation of an aircraft, which is a violation of Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations.

Force spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, stated that the IGP has ordered an immediate investigation to “unravel the circumstances which led to the ugly incident and ensure justice is served accordingly.”

The police boss acted swiftly after receiving a formal petition from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). The singer’s actions have been widely condemned, with many calling for his arrest and prosecution.

The NCAA had already sent a letter to the IGP and the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbami, calling for a “comprehensive criminal investigation and the initiation of appropriate prosecution” against the singer.

The aviation regulator also imposed a six-month ban on KWAM1, warning that any airline that flies him during this period risks losing its license.

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has also condemned the singer’s behavior, calling his act of blocking a moving aircraft “unacceptable and reprehensible.”

While KWAM1 released an apology video over the weekend, the recent remand of an unruly Ibom Air passenger, Comfort Emmanson, has fueled public outrage and calls for the singer’s immediate prosecution.

The police have assured the public that the incident will be investigated and that justice will be served.
