Bandits storm Sokoto Mosque during prayers, kill 1, kidnap many

Armed bandits have attacked a mosque in Marnona village, Wurno Local Government Area, Sokoto State, during early morning prayers, resulting in one death and several injuries.

Reports indicate that the heavily armed men entered the mosque and began shooting at the worshippers, causing widespread panic and forcing residents to flee.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, Hon. Isah Sadeeq Achida, strongly condemned the incident, calling it “barbaric and an act of cowardice.” He described the targeting of innocent worshippers in a place of prayer as a “clear sign of moral bankruptcy.”

Achida said, “This attack is not only an assault on human lives but also on our collective faith and values.

The perpetrators must be brought to justice, and we must remain united as a people to overcome this menace.” He assured residents that the state government and security agencies are working to curb banditry and offered his sympathy to the victims’ families.

Security sources suggest the attackers may have come from camps in the forests between Sokoto and Zamfara states, a known hideout for armed groups. The bandits reportedly left the scene before security forces arrived.
