Nigerian man jailed for rape in UK, faces deportation
A 33-year-old Nigerian man, Segun Ogundipe, has been sentenced to five years in prison in the United Kingdom for the rape and sexual assault of a woman in Gloucester.
Ogundipe, who resided on Tuffley Lane, was convicted at Gloucester Crown Court of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and assault by penetration, despite denying the charges. After completing his sentence, he will be deported.
This conviction follows just days after another Nigerian man, Elvis Nosakhare, was sentenced to six years in the UK for sexually assaulting his girlfriend’s underage daughter.
According to Gloucestershire Police, the offenses occurred in 2022 after Ogundipe met the victim at her workplace and invited her out for drinks. The victim grew uncomfortable as his comments became increasingly sexual throughout the evening.

He later drove her to his home under the pretense of picking something up. After she used the bathroom, Ogundipe sexually assaulted and raped her. He continued to touch her against her will even while driving her to Cheltenham afterward.
Police officers on routine patrol stopped Ogundipe’s car, which gave the victim a chance to exit. She was initially hesitant to speak but confided in officers after they noticed her distress, revealing she had been raped. Ogundipe’s claim in court that the woman consented was rejected by the jury.
Judge Lowe acknowledged the positive character references presented for Ogundipe but stated that the severity of the crime justified the five-year sentence.
In a statement read in court, the survivor detailed the devastating emotional impact of the assault, saying it “made her question her worth and forced her to leave her job.” She urged other victims to speak out, regardless of feelings of shame or self-blame.
Detective Constable Jon Furse, the investigating officer, praised the survivor’s bravery. He noted that Ogundipe’s actions had caused lasting harm and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to holding sexual offenders accountable.
