The Enugu State Police Command has foiled an armed robbery at Premier Layout, Enugu, killing one suspect and recovering firearms, ammunition, and other stolen items.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said in a statement that the incident occurred at about 4:10 a.m. on August 6, 2025, after a distress call alerted Independence Layout Police Division to the robbery in progress.
According to him, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised operatives and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group to the scene. Upon arrival, the armed gang opened fire on the team, prompting the operatives to respond with “superior firepower,” neutralising one of the suspects while others fled.
A search of the scene and the dead suspect yielded a cut-to-size locally made single-barrel gun with one live cartridge, a locally fabricated Beretta pistol with one live round of ammunition, a Nokia torch-button phone belonging to the suspect, two iPhones belonging to victims, a small red bag, a red-and-black torchlight, and ₦9,000 in ₦1,000 notes.
