Goodluck Jonathan to contest 2027 presidential election, Insiders confirm
Former President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a senior party chieftain has exclusively told Neptune Prime.
The PDP source, who requested anonymity, said Jonathan has given his approval to return to the political fray and is already engaged in extensive consultations with influential stakeholders across the country.

Jonathan, who governed Nigeria between 2010 and 2015, is said to be positioning his bid as a one-term presidency aimed at tackling the nation’s deepening economic challenges, worsening insecurity, and poverty levels.
While Jonathan has not yet made a public declaration, multiple reports suggest that an announcement could come in the coming weeks as the PDP intensifies its internal preparations for 2027.

His potential return to the ballot will place him against an increasingly crowded field of political heavyweights already positioning their candidates for what is expected to be one of the most competitive elections in Nigeria’s recent history.
The confirmation comes barely hours after All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain George Agbakahi publicly urged Jonathan to enter the race, declaring on national television that the APC “is waiting” for him.
Jonathan’s return to the political scene will prompt the APC and other major parties to strategically reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
His entry will intensify the competition, forcing rival parties to strengthen their alliances, mobilise supporters, and adjust their campaign strategies in an effort to secure electoral victory.
