Gombe State Police have arrested two youths in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old man, Dauda Ahmed, in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area.

The suspects, Babayo Musa, 20, and Zaidu Sani, 18, are accused of conspiring with two others still at large to attack Ahmed with machetes. The attack, which took place on Tuesday morning, was reportedly fueled by suspicions that the victim had stolen a motorcycle.

The victim was ambushed at Jauro Musa Quarters and suffered severe injuries to his head and stomach. He was rushed to the General Hospital, Kumo, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, issued a statement condemning the act and warning against mob justice. He stated, “This was a clear case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide. We have arrested two of the suspects, and they have already confessed to the attack, citing suspicions over motorcycle theft in the area.”

Efforts are underway to find the two remaining suspects, identified only as Sulaiman and Usama. DSP Abdullahi emphasized that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands, regardless of the allegations.

He stressed, “Jungle justice is not only unlawful but also undermines the justice system. Any individual or group involved in such acts will be held accountable under the law.”

The incident was first reported by the victim’s brother, Dahiru Ahmed, after which the Divisional Police Officer of Akko Division, CSP Adam Ngubdo, led a team to the scene.

The suspects were later tracked and arrested. The case has now been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Gombe for further investigation and prosecution.

The police are urging residents to report any criminal activity to the nearest police station rather than resorting to mob violence.

“We call on the public to remain law-abiding and assist the police with information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects,” Abdullahi added.
