Female Amazons of the North East: Dr. Farida A. Kera steps up as Dean of Law at Gombe State University
Permit me to reintroduce to you a mother, a mentor, and a definition of hope to law students and the general community. Two times Head of Department, Private Law, and one time Deputy Dean Faculty of Law at ABU Zaria, now as the Dean of Law Faculty of Law Gombe State University.

It’s a moment of immense pride not just for Northern Nigeria, but for the entire legal academic community, as Dr. Farida A’isha Kera, a remarkable and trailblazing scholar from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, takes on the influential role of Dean of the Faculty of Law at Gombe State University (GSU).

Known for her sharp intellect, unwavering dedication, and natural leadership, Dr. Kera arrives at this prestigious role carrying decades of rich academic and professional experience. Her impressive journey includes two stints as Head of the Department of Private Law at ABU and serving as Deputy Dean of the renowned Faculty of Law.
A Journey Forged with Grit and Excellence
Born on August 12, 1965, in Zaria, Dr. Kera’s academic path has been nothing short of inspiring. From Central Primary School in Gombe to Federal Government College, Kazaure, where she graduated in 1983, she displayed early on the spark of ambition and drive that would define her career.
Her love for law began at Ahmadu Bello University, a place she would call home for many years, earning a Diploma in Law (1986), an LL.B. (2000), an LL.M. (2002), and finally a Ph.D. in Law (2021).

Alongside these, she also received her Barrister at Law (B.L.) qualification from the Nigerian Law School in Abuja and strengthened her international outlook with a certificate from JICA in Pretoria, South Africa.
Milestones Along the Way
Dr. Kera’s journey into academia took an unconventional path. From starting as a Chief Clerical Officer at ABU in 1987, she steadily climbed the ranks, ultimately becoming a driving force in legal education. Her academic career blossomed with roles as Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer II, Lecturer I, and eventually Head of Department, all before her recent appointment as Dean.
Her commitment to education also shines through her role as an E-Tutor at ABU’s Distance Learning Centre (ABUDLC), a testament to her belief in accessible learning.
Beyond the Lecture Halls
But Dr. Kera is much more than an academic. She is a passionate advocate for justice and a vocal champion of gender equity, embodying the values she teaches.
