Police arrest father for shooting son dead at birthday party
A 63-year old man shot and killed his son with a homemade gun during a birthday party he threw for his father, police reported on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at an apartment in Incheon, west of Seoul, when the suspect allegedly fired two shots at his son, who was in his 30s, in the presence of his daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, and friends.
The victim was rushed to a hospital but was later pronounced dead due to injuries from the bullets, which hit his chest. The gun used in the shooting was described as being in pipe form.

Following the incident, the suspect was detained without a warrant. During the investigation, he claimed to have installed an explosive device at his home in Seoul’s northern district of Dobong, prompting authorities to evacuate 105 residents from the building.

A special unit team from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency discovered 15 explosive devices at the suspect’s home, including one connected to an ignition source via a plastic bottle containing flammable liquid, which was set to go off. The devices were safely dismantled and removed. In addition to the two homemade guns used in the shooting, nine other guns were found in the suspect’s car, and five to six metal pipes were discovered at his home.
The motive behind the suspect’s actions remains unclear, and police are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
