Rejoinder: The whimsical fantasies of Governor Abdullahi Sule, by Engr. Bello Gwarzo Abdullahi, FNSE
Nigeria’s political landscape, imbued with intricacies, unfolds like a meticulously choreographed drama, wherein the interplay between the ruling party and the opposition is undeniably captivating. The time-honored adage of “biting the hand that feeds you”resonates profoundly in this context, illuminating the complex dynamics at play.
For instance, recent developments have witnessed Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nassarawa State asserting that Buhari’s 12 million voters will gravitate towards the APC in the forthcoming 2027 elections, eliciting a pointed rebuttal from Cham Faliya Sharon in an article titled “The Whimsical Fantasies of Governor Abdullahi Sule.”
In today’s era, characterized by shifting allegiances and ephemeral loyalties, Sule’s assertions warrant meticulous scrutiny. Sharon adeptly elucidated critical facets that cast doubt on the prevailing narrative.
It is imperative to consider that Sule’s conviction regarding Buhari’s supporters seamlessly transitioning their allegiance to Tinubu in 2027 appears increasingly tenuous, particularly in light of the mounting discontent directed towards Tinubu’s faction. Recent developments have only exacerbated this dissatisfaction, further undermining the plausibility of such a seamless transfer of loyalty.
Moreover, Tinubu’s recruitment of vocal critics of Buhari has engendered fractures among Buhari’s supporters, potentially precipitating significant realignments in political loyalties.
This discord within the ruling party not only undermines its unity but also creates opportunities for the opposition to capitalize on these divisions. The delicate balance of power is shifting, cultivating a volatile environment where alliances are fragile and susceptible to rapid change.
The situation has deteriorated to such an extent that even previously prominent adversaries of the Buhari administration, such as Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, have felt compelled to resign from their governmental positions to salvage their reputations.
This underscores the formidable challenges to Tinubu’s political viability, highlighting the precariousness even of the most entrenched figures within Nigerian politics. The power dynamics are evolving, and established figures are facing increasing scrutiny and pressure from within their own ranks.
Governor Sule would be prudent to concentrate on fortifying his legacy in Nassarawa State, fully cognizant of the capricious nature of politics and approaching engagements with figures such as Tinubu with circumspection. It is imperative for political leaders to prioritize cultivating robust connections with their constituents and fulfilling electoral promises to inscribe a favorable legacy in history.
Addressing pressing issues such as the economy, security, and unemployment with urgency and efficacy is crucial. Politicians must remain vigilant that neglecting the needs and aspirations of their constituents while adhering to someone else’s script is ultimately counterproductive, as each leader will bear their own burdens.
Only by prioritizing the welfare and prosperity of the nation can leaders earn the trust and support of the populace, thereby paving the way for a more promising future for all Nigerians.
