Police arrest soldier for illegal possession of ammunition

Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have arrested one suspect, identified as Yahaya Yunusa, for unlawful possession of a large quantity of ammunition in the military garrison town of Jaji.
In a signal of the Command seen by Neptune Prime, Yunusa, on interrogation, reportedly revealed that he is a private soldier presently serving with the 197 Special Forces Battalion in Zamfara State.
An identification card that authenticates his claim of belonging to the Army, was also found on him.
According to the Police signal, the ammunition found with the suspect includes; 50 rounds of 12.7 × 108mm linked with a chain; 69 rounds of 7.62 × 54 mm also linked with a chain; 35 rounds of 7.62 × 54 mm unlinked and, 60 rounds of 5.56 × 45 mm.

Also, four Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards were found in his possessions at the time of his arrest.
On how he got the ammunition, Yunusa reportedly confessed during preliminary investigation that he used to take advantage of his being an operator of Anti Aircraft (AA) mounted on operational vehicles, to steal the ammunition during official operations.
The arrest of Private Yunusa is coming at about the same time that another serving personnel of the Nigerian Army, Lance Corporal Yusuf Yunussa, was arrested by the police while attempting to sell a stolen car, a Toyota Corolla, at Lambata in Kwali. Area Council.
According to Police reports, Lance Corporal Yunusa of the 82 Battalion of the Army based in Rukuba, Plateau State, confessed that he stole the car, last Thursday, 17th April, 2025, from its parking spot, at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja.
