Intoxicated police officer guns down innocent resident, tea seller
An unidentified Nigerian police officer, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, has shot and killed an unarmed man named Sani in the Angwan-Kaje area of Maitumbi, Minna, Niger State.
According to reports gathered, the incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Monday, when the officer, intoxicated, opened fire on the victim without provocation.
Witnesses say Sani posed no threat at the time, as he was unarmed and peacefully going about his business.
The officer’s reckless shooting also targeted a tea seller known as Mai Shayi, who narrowly escaped injury.

A source close to the incident revealed that the officer shot Sani while he was sleeping, and fired at Mai Shayi, who managed to flee the scene.
Bullet shells were found at the location, confirming the chaotic nature of the attack.
Those familiar with Sani described him as a peaceful man with no known ties to criminal groups. “He was well-known in the area, not arrogant, and certainly not involved with any ‘Yan daba’ group.
“He was a good person,” one source said.
Wasiu Abiodun, the Public Relations Officer for the Niger State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that a complaint was lodged early this morning.
He added that the Commissioner of Police had instructed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Maitumbi to investigate and identify the officers responsible for this tragic act.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed the DPO Maitumbi to investigate and identify the team who allegedly committed such a heinous act for further necessary action,” Abiodun said.
“Further developments and actions taken will be communicated to the public in due course,” he assured.
