94-year-old joins 2025 UTME for political science

A 94-year-old man, Adedapo Idowu, has registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with the goal of fulfilling his long-held dream of studying Political Science at the University of Ibadan.

Idowu, who completed his registration at the JAMB Professional Test Center in Ibadan, Oyo State, expressed his excitement over the smooth and efficient process.

The 2025 UTME registration began on January 31. Last week, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) revealed that over 700,000 candidates have already registered, including 11,000 underage applicants.

Reflecting on his experience, Idowu shared how his initial apprehensions about pursuing higher education at his age were dispelled after the seamless registration process. He praised JAMB for effectively incorporating technology, such as linking his National Identity Number (NIN), which simplified data collection and made the process more user-friendly.

Idowu’s story was highlighted in the latest JAMB bulletin.

“I can now pursue my dream at an advanced age. The registration staff made me feel welcome with their warm reception at the registration center,” he noted.

He encouraged other candidates to approach their academic journey with professionalism and contentment, emphasizing the importance of perseverance. Idowu also urged JAMB to continue improving its efforts, ensuring that education remains accessible to all, especially the elderly, underprivileged, and people with disabilities.
