Ahmadu Bello University honours Drs Kera, Hauwa Sani, 121 others

Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has honoured 123 staff and service units for distinguishing themselves by making outstanding contributions to the university’s objectives.
The ceremony, which took place in Yusufu Bala Usman Hall on Thursday, 30 January 2025, was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Kabiru Bala.
Since the University established the Reward and Recognition System, this is the second time that such an activity has been organised to reward hard work and encourage a meaningful, fulfilling and purpose-driven working environment for staff of all categories.
Last year, as part of the institution’s effort to boost staff morale and instil trust and motivate employees, a total of 117 staff and service units were recognized and honoured.
As of this year, it was last week that the University Reward and Recognition System Committee submitted its report to the University Management and recommended a total of 26 categories of different awards for 123 staff and service units.
Among the recipients of this year’s awards are Dr Farida Kera, from the Faculty of Law, and Dr Hauwa Mohammed Sani from the Faculty of Arts.
Dr Farida Aisha Kera, a senior lecturer in the Department of Private Law, is the immediate past Deputy Dean and Head of the Department of Private Law.
Dr Kera, who is currently the Deputy Vice Chairperson of the International Federation of Female Lawyers (FIDA), Zaria Branch, had a remarkable tenure as a HoD where she had outstanding achievements in areas of scholarly contributions, staff, students, and capital development.
She was honoured with the Best Performing Head of Department Award in the Faculty of Law by the Vice Chancellor.
Doctor Hauwa Mohammed Sani, on the other hand, is the Deputy Director of the Institute for Development Research (IDR).

In an interview with our correspondent, she said she was overjoyed as a result of the award and that it has greatly motivated her to be more hard-working.
The Reward Committee, in carrying out the exercise, was guided by the principal objectives and operational guidelines for rewards and recognition systems in the University as established.
Also, the committee’s work was in line with the established criteria scoring templates for the evaluation of staff with outstanding performance and contributions to the various accepted categories.
The University’s Reward and Recognition exercise was based on the submission of nominations from heads of relevant units of the University and the relevant instrument of evaluation as established a well as inputs from other members of the University community through the administration of a structured questionnaire instrument.
During his closing remarks, Professor Kabiru Bala expressed his appreciation to all the recipients of the award and called on the staff who are yet to be awarded to be hard working so that they too can be awarded in the future.
Among the important guests in attendance during the event was Former Minister of Agriculture, Sheikh Abdallah Dangi, and Alhaji Malam Abba Bello from Quantity Survey.
