ATBUTH Bauchi reduces kidney dialysis costs by 70%

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi has reduced the cost of kidney dialysis by 70%.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, Usman Koli, the hospital’s Head of Public Relations, explained that this significant price cut aims to alleviate the financial burdens faced by patients.

The cost of a dialysis session has been lowered from ₦40,000 to an affordable ₦12,000, providing much-needed relief for individuals dealing with kidney-related conditions.

Koli highlighted that the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Professor Yusuf Bara, expressed optimism about the positive impact of the program. He also mentioned that the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare had supported the initiative by ensuring an adequate supply of consumables and providing a new dialysis machine.

“This effort reflects the government’s commitment to making quality healthcare more accessible, particularly during these challenging times,” Koli said.

Already, over 45 patients have benefited from the reduced prices. The hospital continues to prioritize offering affordable and high-quality healthcare, aiming to strengthen public trust in the healthcare system.

Koli assured the public that ATBUTH would maintain its collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and other partners to ensure the continuation and expansion of such programs for the wider benefit of citizens.

Magaji Galadima, a kidney patient at the hospital, expressed deep gratitude for the program, stating, “This initiative has brought hope to many of us who previously couldn’t afford treatment. It is truly life-changing.”
