47-year-old Oliver Okechukwu arrested for swindling Indian woman in marriage scam
A 47-year-old Nigerian man, identified as Oliver Ugwu Okechukwu, has been arrested in Mumbai for allegedly defrauding an Indian woman of Rs 5.5 lakh (over ₦9 million) after promising to marry her.
According to Bagalkot Superintendent of Police Siddarth Goel, Okechukwu was taken into custody on September 4.
Police stated that Okechukwu used online matrimony sites to target women, using fake identities to build trust before asking for money.
Posing as “Satya Amit” from London, he befriended a divorced woman from Ilkal and convinced her to transfer the money to him under the guise of paying customs fees to recover a large sum of seized cash. After receiving the funds, he ceased all contact with the victim, who then filed a complaint with the cybercrime police.
