3 arrested as mob kills NSCDC officer

An officer with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Bashir Adamu Jibril, was killed by a mob while on duty at the Shurawin market in the Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The incident, which took place around 2 p.m. on Monday, occurred inside the market’s cattle-selling unit, where Jibril, a Superintendent of the Corps from the Intelligence and Investigation Department, was on assignment. The attackers, allegedly armed with knives, overpowered and brutally lynched him.

Confirming the incident, the NSCDC Jigawa State Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani, said, “The officer was on assignment at the Shurawin market when the incident happened.” Tijjani further explained, “The attackers attacked the officer with knives, and unfortunately, he lost his life.”

Jibril was rushed to the hospital following the attack but was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
According to Tijjani, three prime suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime, while others are still at large. “We have arrested three suspects so far, and investigations are ongoing to track down the others involved,” he stated.

Tijjani added that once the investigation is complete, the suspects will be charged in court to ensure justice is served. “We will ensure that those responsible for this heinous crime are brought to book,” he vowed.

The command is working with other security agencies to find the remaining suspects, with Tijjani revealing, “We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators of this crime face the full wrath of the law.”

The command has called on the public to cooperate with security agencies and remain calm while the investigation proceeds. “We understand the public’s outrage, but we urge them to remain calm and allow us to do our job,” Tijjani said.

The NSCDC also urged the public to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
